My Thoughts
This fourth book in the Ravenel series followers Dr. Garret Gibson, first woman doctor in London, as she clashes with Ethan Ransom. Ransom is a detective who is trying to weed out corruption on the force, putting himself and anyone he knows in danger.
This is the only book from the 7-book series that I hadn’t read, and I thought it was time to remedy that situation.
Kleypas writes strong women who have to learn how to give if they want to enjoy the love of strong men. She shows us the constraints of women during the period while allowing the ready to believe the fantasy outcome. Though I enjoyed the original Wallflower series more, this spin-off series stands up well within the genre.
I enjoyed the give and take banter between the main characters and getting glimpses into the lives of previous characters from the series. Also, the overall plot was intriguing and the mystery element wash a refreshing twist within the storyline.
The reveal of Ransom’s connection to the Ravenel’s felt anti-climactic. His hostility was lightly explained, but didn’t seem justified considering his life experience and level of maturity.
This series is for the classic romance reader. One who enjoys knows the main characters will come together throw a very fantastical series of events. The smut is not especially steamy, but not super gentle either. If you enjoy a good romance formula with interesting charcters, this book is for you.
The Ravenels is the seven part spin-off series from the original five-part Wallflower series.
